Mr. Kaspar has worked with legendary Egyptian composers Farid al-Atrash, Sayyad Makowi and Hanni Mehanna. He has traveled extensively during his career and has performed with artists John Bilezikjian, Kenny Burrell, Omar Faruk, Shujaat Khan, Kronos Quartet, Cheb Mami, Dr. Scott Marcus, Roberto Miranda, Tito Puente, the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra, Kathem al-Saher, Simon Shaheen, Sting, Strunz & Farah, Wadi al-Safi and many others. He has also performed for dignitaries such as Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and the Dalai Lama.

In all of the years I have studied music, I have never seen such a combination of musicianship, stage presence and overall professionalism as with Mr. Kaspar…Importantly, Souhail teaches…stage presence and professionalism.
Souhail is kind and humorous. Lessons with him invariably include humor. For those that are new to drumming, or music in general, Souhail’s humor creates a sense of ease and familiarity that lowers one’s anxiety and sets the stage for relaxed, concentrated learning. As such, Souhail’s personality is a very important part of his teaching successes. It is rare that world-class musicians also possess such a vibrant sense of humor, a deep commitment to teaching, and a welcoming attitude that keeps audiences and students coming back for years and years.
Will McClintock, Ph.D., University of California

Besides being the consummate teacher, he is a dancer's drummer, who can make any dancer look great (so gently encourage the drummers in your life to learn from him :). Dale Hall and I sat in on Souhail’s beginner class this past year. He really takes time to focus on your execution, and he makes it happen for you. After that one "beginner" lesson, our playing was cleaner than it ever has been…we keep bringing Souhail...I can only hope that players in this area begin to understand what an incredible resource he is. I wish I had this when I was starting out.
Brad Kostana

...A sincere, dedicated, and devoted man who shows a unique mix of seriousness about music and education combined with a fun-loving attitude...Mr. Kaspar is an extraordinary instructor. I have taught at the University of Southern California since 1991 and have 11 teaching awards myself, so I know a good teacher when I see one. Mr. Kaspar has stellar intuitions about each student’s individual strengths. His mastery of percussion also gives him a superb understanding of the correct progression of skills that each student should develop in order to improve as rapidly as possible. He has an amazing ability to inspire each student to stretch a bit more with each lesson.

Belly Dance Extravaganza

Join us the historic Troy Hayner Cultural Center for a day full of workshops followed by a phenomenal evening show, all in the grand ballroom. (Please note that while the building is historic, the HVAC system is brand new!!) This event, in it's 5th year, has found a new home conveniently located off I-75!! There will be a quick break between workshops to allow for drink/snack breaks. After the classes there are tons of options for a good dinner before the show and an after party is in the works as we speak.

Troy Hayner Cultural Center
301 West Main Street

July 30th, 12p - 10p

Workshop Schedule:

Tribal Fusion Combinations with Carenza: 12-1 pm $15

This workshop combines movements from many cultures. The beauty of Tribal Fusion involves strong posture, a solid foundation, hot pop and locks and precise, snaky movements. Short & sassy combinations will be taught utilizing the movements taught in class. Whether you are new to this dance or a “pro”, there will be something for everyone!

Abernathy's Conceptual Body Wisdom Workshop~
Intention in Opposition: 1:15-3:15 pm $30

This is a conceptual dance movement class. We will focus on how you move as an individual. We will discuss where movement comes from in the brain and body and use techniques to get the two on the same page! We will also work on body alignment and daily moves to help build strengh and stature. There will not be any drilling or technique work. It will be totally about you as a dancer in YOUR body and how to read what you do best and magnify it! This workshop will be great for everyone!

Janaan al Jahanni’s Intermediate Choreography: 3:30-5:30 $30

This workshop is designed for dancers who have acheived at least beginner level proficiency and are currently dancing at the intermediate level. Building upon our foundation of belly dance basics, this workshop will use hip work, body isolations, and posturing we are familiar with as we layer those movements while adding foot patterns and arm work resulting choreography suited for the intermediate student. Although we will be encorporating our basics, you will be challenged with dance sequences and body movements that step outside of the traditional belly dance realm that lend to Janaan’s personal style. We’ll work on defining a sharpness to our dance focusing on crisp movements, clean isolations, as well as having some fun with the unconventional. As necessary, technique will be covered in conjunction with the choreography being taught.

Discounted Workshop Pricing as Follows:
3 hr $40 (save $5)
4 hr $50 (save $10)
5 hr $60 (save $15)
